LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS
Workshops are conducted in person or via Webinar.
Each workshop can be customized to the needs of the client. A pre-workshop discussion will allow for an accurate assessment of the client’s needs aimed at producing an impactful and results-oriented experience benefiting both the organization and the participants.
COACHING - TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL!
Coaching is the art and science of facilitating positive change, which makes it a critical skill for leaders at all levels today. A coaching organization goes beyond knowledge management. It focuses less on what is to be achieved, and more on how to achieve it: how to unlock inner potential - creative, emotional, entrepreneurial - of people within the organization and make them persistent innovators, leaders, and team-members. It starts with an understanding of the underlying principles of effectual coaching as well as an introduction to a proven coaching process. The workshop also deals with the tools necessary for coaching success including effective questioning techniques, active listening skills and meaningful feedback know-how. INSPIRING OTHERS TO SUCCEED In a recent McKinsey Quarterly survey, respondents assessed three nonfinancial motivators—praise from immediate managers, leadership attention, and a chance to lead projects—as no less or even more effective motivators than the three highest-rated financial incentives: cash bonuses, increased base pay, and stock or stock options. These top three nonfinancial motivators play critical roles in making employees feel that their companies value them, take their well-being seriously, and strive to create opportunities for career growth. If the value of employees can be reaffirmed during difficult times for an organization, then chances are these companies won't lose their best people when times are bright. Although many supervisors/managers have struggled with this, motivating is a skill that can be learned. This workshop assists leaders in understanding what the motivational needs of others are - the “what's in it for me” for individual employees and workgroups. Aligning these motivational drivers with the goals and strategies of the organisation is the key to improving motivation and performance of individuals and groups of employees. WORTHWHILE MEETINGS According to the Wall Street Journal report on Wharton Centre For Applied Research, middle managers spend 11 hours a week in meetings and cost up to $20,000.00 a year each. This doesn’t include the time wasted while in the meeting like people arriving late, people with key information cancelling at the last minute and getting off the topic. Because meetings are such an integral part of business, it is imperative that meeting leaders understand the fundamentals of an effective meeting and how to achieve their goals each and every time they meet. Focussing on guidelines of managing effective meetings including preparation, leading and follow-up, as well as maintaining on-going participant engagement make this workshop a critical asset to any organization. SWITCHING HATS - TAKING ON THE ROLE OF SUPERVISOR/MANAGER When promoting employees to supervisory positions, organizations will typically choose their best performers. In most instances, incumbents are expected to move right into their new position with ease and success without further training and development. Is it no surprise that many new supervisors/managers struggle in their new position and, to some extent, become unmotivated and disillusioned! This workshop focuses on recognizing and accepting the different roles a supervisor/manager must take on to be successful. It deals with identifying the skills needed as well as understanding how to acquire such skills and, how a supervisor/manager must meet the expectations of this new role to achieve success. LET'S WORK IT OUT- DEALING WITH CONFLICT Unresolved conflict represents the largest reducible cost in many businesses, yet it remains largely unrecognized. A 2005 UK survey by Roffey Park found that "78% of managers are suffering from work-related stress, 52% have experienced harassment, and 46% have seen an increase in conflict at work." The total value of lost work time due to stress is estimated to be $1.7 billion. (WarrenShepel, Health & Wellness Research Database, 2005). Conflict in the workplace can be minimized through an understanding of what it is, how it starts and how to deal with it. This workshop not only covers this understanding, but allows participants to discover their preferred conflict handling style and, to learn helpful techniques and a proven process to effectively deal with conflict in various situations. |
ACCOMPLISHING MORE THROUGH DELEGATION
These days, more and more is expected from supervisors/managers and although many try, it is very difficult to do everything that everyone wants; the result is stress and a feeling of malcontent and failure for letting people down. On the positive side, however, if one can find a way around this limitation, it is a tremendous opportunity that can lead to career success! An effective way to overcome this limitation is to learn how to delegate work to other people. By doing this well, one can quickly build a strong and successful team of people, well able to meet the demands of a highly productive workplace. This workshop will provide participants with the necessary understanding, techniques and process for implementing effective delegation in the workplace. MANAGING PERFORMANCE FOR IMPROVEMENT Performance management is the process of ensuring that goals are consistently being met in an effective and efficient manner. It ensures a mutual understanding between supervisor and employee of what is to be accomplished and how they are supposed to do it. More importantly, it cultivates a change in perspective from activities to results - a common misconception among supervisors is that behaviours and activities are the same as results. The workshop ensures that leaders gain this understanding as an underlying principle to implementing their performance management process in support of ongoing communication, feedback and dialogue about organizational goals and work processes. This approach promotes accountability where employees are required to "put a stake in the ground" as well as support performance improvement where employee development plans are put in place. GETTING THINGS DONE Are you familiar with the '80:20 Rule' - typically 80% of unfocussed effort generates only 20% of results. This means that the remaining 80% of results are achieved with only 20% of the effort. While this may not be the case in every situation, this ratio reappears so frequently that it is the norm in many situations. By applying the time management tips and skills in this workshop one can enhance their effort by concentrating as much time and energy as possible on the high payoff tasks reaping the greatest benefit possible with the limited amount of time available. Personal time management skills are essential skills for effective people. People who use these techniques routinely are the highest achievers in all walks of life, from business to sport to public service. At the heart of time management is an important shift in focus: Concentrate on results, not on being busy. The workshop provides leaders with simple and practical techniques, help on quickly eliminating the most common time-wasters, and the really powerful and life-changing technique of goal setting and scheduling, which is fundamentally important to taking control of a workload. SUCCESSFUL COMMUNICATIONS Effective communication in the workplace is one of the most challenging goals to attain. Many supervisors/managers feel they have good communication skills as they deliver a clear and concise message but cannot understand why their message isn’t getting through to others. To add to this frustration, a major complaint by employees is that they are not been heard and understood by their boss. Understanding the principles of effective communication through the identification and interplay of various communication styles forms the basis of this workshop. As we explore the communication process, the importance of a clear message, effective listening, attention to para-verbal messages and giving and receiving feedback are highlighted. Last but not least, the significance of integrity-based communications is emphasized for the supervisory/managerial role. HANDLING PERFORMANCE ISSUES Supervisors understand how important it is to maintain a consistent positive environment. Yet, despite how much energy and commitment is devoted to creating and maintaining a positive, productive, enthusiastic and successful environment, there will nonetheless, inevitably and without fail be problems with certain individuals. Understanding how to manage performance against job expectations and how to effectively and quickly address underachieving performers is emphasized in this workshop. Learning how to create a performance enhancement agreement to address unacceptable workplace performance, forms the base from which supervisors/managers develop their skills in providing feedback for upgraded performance. Recognizing behaviour based issues and knowing when and how to follow the progressive discipline process is also covered in the workshop. |
